Taking your child in for their first well-visit can feel like a big step, especially for new parents. Knowing what to expect ahead of time eases a lot of the nerves, for both you and your little one.
What to bring
- Your child’s vaccination record and any medical records you have
- A list of any medicines or supplements
- A few notes on feeding, sleep and growth
- Your questions, however small they seem
- Your child’s ID and insurance details
What happens during the visit
The doctor will usually check your child’s height, weight and overall development, and talk with you about feeding, sleep habits and anything you’ve noticed. It’s also the right time to ask about upcoming vaccinations and future visits.
Keep your child comfortable
Bring a favorite toy or snack, and plan around nap times if you can. A calm parent often helps a child feel calm too, so don’t worry if you feel a little nervous; the care team is there to support you both.
